It started as a refuge for therapists
Beyond Healing began with a small group of therapists who already knew each other, relationally and professionally. We were each in private practice to some degree, and some of us also worked with agencies. At first we came together to share the administrative load. That grew into something bigger: a group practice where provisionally licensed and fully licensed clinicians practice side by side, in a community built around continuing education, burnout prevention, and a culture people want to be part of.
What we saw missing was a way for clinicians to practice together outside the agency model of high caseloads, minimum requirements, low pay, and no benefits. We wanted a place that values professional development and highly effective therapy, and a refuge for the therapists we knew who wanted something different.
Ryan Savage came to Beyond from education. A former public school principal with a background in mathematics, he became our first CFO and later our CEO.
The name is a creative expression of where we want to take the field: to reimagine what therapy can look like and feel like, for therapists and for clients alike.
Beyond Healing Institute
The Institute started alongside the Center and was one of the biggest reasons we came together. The first iteration of Somatic Integration and Processing (SIP) was written within our own community, and training clinicians has been part of Beyond from day one.
Notice That
Our podcast began in 2019, grounded in the EMDR Basic Training and certification work we were already running. In some ways, the Institute is older than the Center.
Beyond Healing Psychiatry
Psychiatry opened after years of working to bring effective medication management and psychiatric care to our clients. It became possible once legal changes opened the first paths to independent practice for psychiatric nurse practitioners.
Now, more than ever, the pieces are coming together: counseling, psychiatric care, and training, for the Missouri community and the therapists who practice here, and through the Institute, for clinicians all over the world.
